Educational packs, school visits and workshops ​are organised by ROHM for teachers to engage students ahead of the performance to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of the event.​

An operatic fantasy about a naughty child who​ takes pleasure in destroying the things in his room including homework, plants and stuffed animals. Only for the abused things in the room come to life and sing about their misery and the need for punitive revenge. In- spired by inventive libretto of French writer, Sidonie- Gabrielle Colette, Ravel’s brilliant score is rich in col- our and magical texture. Students will enjoy this amazing production from Ope ra National de Lyon. In this immersive phantas- magoria, magical visual effects and enchanting projections surround the art- ists and ensure an unfor- gettable experience.

L’INGANNO FELICE

ROHM’s educational pro- ject on Rossini’s farsa comica continues with the collaboration of the Rossi- ni Opera Festival. Rossini’s one-act farse are brilliant, comic, rendering the oper- atic experience uniquely delightful. L’Inganno felice is a comic opera about Duke Bertrando’s wife, Isabella, who is thought to be dead, but in fact is alive. The singers are directed by British stage director Gra- ham Vick, who is renowned for his ability to bring out the best in all performers and to strongly believe in the community meaning of opera-making today. Rossini’s light-hearted world is a perfect gateway to the appreciation of opera from the inside.​

 L'Elisir D'Amore 

A Factory of Ideas. Opera by Gaetano Donizetti​ |16 Monday 17 Tuesday and 18 Wednesday -MARCH ​ -2020  | (Public Schools) 9:00 am ​ 11:00 am (Private Schools) |HOUSE OF MUSICAL ARTS |Age range: 8+  | Duration: 70 minutes​

For this special production of Donizetti’s delightful opera, L’Elisir d’Amore (The Elixir of Love) performed by Teatro Sociale di Como AsLiCo, the opera is set in a failing cough syrup factory. Inspired in part by Charlie Chaplin’s film Modern Times, and Mel Stuart’s Willy Wonka and the Choc- olate Factory, the opera takes place in the 1930’s. Nemorino is a worker mad- ly in love with the owner’s beautiful daughter Adina, who eventually wins her heart. Children in the audience become Nemorino’s fellow factory workers singing arias and taking part in the action to save the factory. Enjoy the key message that if you have good, inventive ideas and work hard, you can be successful.

EL LEILA EL KEBIRA

Composed in the early 1980s by the great Sayed Mekawy with lyrics by Salah Jahin, El Leila El Kebira is about one of the most popu- lar celebrations in Egypt of the last night of the moulid, the birthday of the Prophet. Playful and colourful scenes from the carnival and the circus with catchy folk songs and rhythm, will be presented in a brilliant new production, performed by the Cairo Opera Ballet Com- pany.​​

Tout Neuf (Completely New) was created by Violaine Fournier and Cyrille Louge for children from 2 to 5 years old. As young children experi- ence this show, they find a whole new world to discov- er in the sounds of nature, sounds which gave rise to the invention of music. They are fascinated as they hear an enchanting lyrical poem inspired by Mozart, Bach, Landi and Rossini, celebrating wondrous sounds in nature: water streaming, wind howling, fire crackling and footsteps resounding. They awaken to the es- sence of life as they ex- plore nature step-by-step, experiencing its manifold beauty and discovering new feelings to share..​​
