THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE MUSCAT BRINGS TOGETHER INTERNATIONAL TALENT WITH BRILLIANT YOUNG ARTISTS

Wednesday 12 February 2025

February continued at the Royal Opera House Muscat with the Emerging Talents initiative, which focuses on fostering young musicians and providing them with valuable learning experiences. A major highlight of the programme was the world-renowned baritone Thomas Hampson, who led a series of masterclasses for aspiring musicians in Muscat. These sessions offered in-depth demonstrations into vocal technique, performance practices, and artistic growth. Included 2 omani opera singers in the masterclass out of 8 total.

On February 8th, Hampson performed a special concert at the Opera Galleria, providing both the public and participating musicians with the rare opportunity to hear him in an intimate setting. In a particularly significant moment during the Saturday evening concert, two young Omani singers were featured, marking a special occasion for the local music scene. Their participation in the concert was a poignant milestone, showcasing their vocal talents and allowing them to share the stage with an established artist. The inclusion of these singers was warmly received by the audience, reflecting the pride the community feels for its emerging talents.

The initiative's finale took place on Sunday, February 9th, with a formal evening concert at the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts. Hampson was joined by the Muscat Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera Choir Group, conducted by Lubnan Baalbaki. The performance was an impressive display of musical talent, blending the world-class experience of Hampson with the emerging skills of Omani performers.
