In an atmosphere of dramatic celebration with spirited dancers performing in
the Greek style to music composed by Mikis Theodorakis, the Cairo Opera Ballet
presents a rousing balletic interpretation of Nikos Kazantzakis’ famous novel, Zorba
the Greek. This two-part ballet programme also features El Leila El Kebira created by
Salah Jahin and performed by the Cairo Opera Ballet to music by Sayed Mikkawy.
Integrating catchy Egyptian folk songs, this playful ballet features lively scenes from a
carnival with projected images from popular celebrations, in a vibrant cast complete
with food vendors, clowns and circus performers.
