The Royal Opera House Muscat was graced with two extraordinary performances of Verdi’s beloved opera La Traviata on Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 May, delivering a highlight of the season as world-renowned conductor Plácido Domingo returned to lead the Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova.
Under the direction of Marta Domingo, this sophisticated production transported audiences to the elegance of the 1920s, with soaring performances from Juliana Grigoryan as the tragic Violetta, Yusif Eyvasov as Alfredo, and Caner Akgün as Germont. With dynamic staging, stunning costumes, and flamenco-infused choreography by the Antonio Gades Company, La Traviata proved a powerful blend of tradition and innovation.
As the season nears its close, the presence of Plácido Domingo was especially meaningful. In his remarks following the performance, Director General Umberto Fanni shared:
“It is always an honour to welcome Plácido Domingo back to the Royal Opera House Muscat. Our enduring artistic relationship is a source of pride, and his presence at this point in the season is a beautiful reflection of the calibre and continuity of excellence that ROHM strives to uphold.”
This breathtaking opera not only reaffirmed ROHM’s commitment to showcasing global masters but also celebrated the timeless emotional power of the operatic stage.
